About Me

My name is Karen Steisi Ocampo (She/They), a fourth-year student at the University of Washington majoring in Education, Communities, and Organizations, with minors in Diversity and Business Administration. Growing up in Yakima, Washington—a predominantly Mexican/Latino, lower-income community—shaped my passion for educational equity and inspired my focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion in policy and practice. My academic and personal journey has been guided by a commitment to uplifting underserved populations and advocating for systemic change that empowers students from all backgrounds to succeed.
At UW, I serve as the President of the Multicultural Greek Council and intern at the Office of Student Diversity and Inclusion, where I lead initiatives that promote inclusion, community-building, and resource accessibility. I’m also a proud sister of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. and have held mentoring roles in programs like CAMP and Dare to Dream Academy. These leadership experiences have strengthened my skills in outreach, mentorship, and advocacy. Looking ahead, I aspire to continue this work through graduate studies in education or legal policy, ultimately driving reforms that create equitable educational environments nationwide.
